Digital Tutors: Enhancing Rigs with Maya Muscle

Sometimes we might have muscular characters that doesn’t deform correctly when animated. Maya muscle is a great solution (of course, more expensive). so don’t use it unless we really need it! (Things like twist, we could easily achieve with advanced rigs)

I checked out a few lessons from digital tutors on the muscle system. It’s similar to the skin cluster system, but in that tutorial, the muscle system is an add-on to the skin to control deformations. We create capsules from the joints, then build the muscles of each part with the muscle builder, tweaking the settings until it works.

Personally I’m not a fan of rigging but if you are, do check this system out! It does a great job maintaining the volume of a tough-looking character!
