Maya fake rim light

There are times when we need to light something but the rim light just fails here and there. We might want to explore the use of sampler info node in Maya to make a fake rim light to our object.

1) Make a sampler info node.

2)Plug the facing ratio into the U-coordinate (might be V?) of a ramp.

3) Set the color of the ramp to be the object’s material color and the color of the rim light.

4) Plug the ramp into the color or incandescence of the material.

You’ll see the rim of your object take on the color you want!
